About Us
Brighter Community Resources is a nonprofit organization based in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. We are dedicated to uplifting underserved communities through sustainable, compassionate, and collaborative efforts. Our work centers on empowering individuals—especially children and families—by supporting education, fostering independence, and building resilience.
BCR was founded in 2023 by four friends—Jefferson and Sophia from Venezuela, and Brett and Kensi from the United States—who came together in Costa Rica with a shared passion for healing, service, and community. Their personal journeys through adversity inspired the creation of an organization focused on helping others rise above life’s challenges.

Our Guiding Principles

We empower by connecting communities with knowledge, tools, and opportunities that promote self-sufficiency. For example, we offer English classes and provide access to educational materials that help individuals gain long-term skills.
We work hand-in-hand with local residents, educators, and partners to understand needs and co-create meaningful solutions. Community voices guide every initiative we undertake.
BCR is rooted in personal experience and deep empathy. Our founders have lived through the very struggles our communities face, and our approach is holistic, hands-on, and relationship-driven. We are not just a charity—we are neighbors, friends, and collaborators striving together for a brighter future.
Programs and Services
Our main programs include:
- Libros for Niños – Providing books and educational materials for children.
- Lunchadores – Supporting nutritional needs for students and families.
- Sol Play – Offering creative, educational, and emotional support for youth
*We also conduct school needs assessments and community outreach.
Our services currently support over 2,000 children, more than 100 families, and 6 public schools in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. We aim to serve all community members who are in need, especially those facing systemic barriers to education and opportunity.
Get Involved
There are many ways to get involved and help us make a meaningful impact:
- Donate – One-time or recurring gifts go directly to support community programs.
- Volunteer – Join us locally or through a humanitarian retreat.
- Fundraise – Host a fundraising event or share our story on social media.
- Partner with us – Schools, churches, and businesses can join our efforts through sponsorship or collaboration.
- Spread the word – Tell others about BCR and help us grow our reach.
With your support, we’ve accomplished:
- 210 nutritious meals served to students and families
- 80 books distributed to local schools
- 1 successful humanitarian retreat completed
- 466 individuals directly served through our outreach
- $12,569 raised in donations to date
