Experience true Costa Rican hospitality by staying with a local host family. Includes:

Premium Package – $3,000 per person
Enjoy a more luxurious retreat while still making a deep impact. Includes:
- All humanitarian project activities
- Private lodging in an Airbnb
- Upgraded excursions such as:
- La Leona Waterfall
- Rincón de la Vieja Volcano
- Snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding
- Fishing or catamaran tour

About the Retreat
It’s a 6-day, 5-night immersive travel experience that combines meaningful volunteer work with cultural exploration and adventure. Based in beautiful Playas del Coco, Costa Rica, our retreats give you the chance to directly support local schools, families, and the environment all while enjoying authentic Costa Rican life.
Everyone is welcome! Whether you’re coming alone, with friends or family, as part of a service group, church, or corporate team, we’ll ensure your experience is safe, meaningful, and unforgettable.
No Spanish is required. Our bilingual staff and translators will be with you throughout the retreat. That said, learning a few local phrases is always encouraged and appreciated by the community!
Costa Ricans (Ticos) are known for being warm, welcoming, and community-oriented. “Pura Vida” (pure life) is more than a saying. It’s a way of life that celebrates joy, simplicity, and kindness.
Expect a balance of service, personal growth, cultural immersion, and adventure. You’ll work hard, but you’ll also gain deep connections, beautiful memories, and a powerful sense of purpose.

Includes private lodging in an Airbnb, upgraded excursions (like volcano hikes and snorkeling), and all service activities.

Excursions and Free Time
Absolutely! Each retreat includes time for cultural immersion and adventure. Sample excursions include:

Travel and Logistics
Flights are not included in the retreat price. You are responsible for booking and paying for your airfare separately from the retreat price.
We provide airport pickup and drop off from Liberia Airport (LIR). If you choose to fly into San José Airport (SJO), you are responsible for arranging your own transportation to Playas del Coco.
Yes, a valid passport is required. U.S. and Canadian citizens do not need a visa for visits under 90 days. You must show proof of departure from Costa Rica (a return ticket).
Costa Rica generally does not require vaccinations for travelers, but we recommend consulting your doctor or current government travel health advisories.
Yes, Costa Rica is widely considered one of the safest countries in Central America. As with any international travel, use common sense, follow your guide’s instructions, and avoid risky areas at night.
Packing and Personal Needs
Keep it light, practical, and ready for both service and adventure. Essentials include:
- Quick-dry, breathable clothing
- Swimsuit, hat, rain poncho, light sweatshirt
- Closed-toed shoes (sneakers) and sandals
- Sunscreen, bug spray, hygiene products

Limited laundry access may be available depending on lodging, but plan to pack enough clothes for the full stay.
Yes, if you reach out prior to your retreat about dietary accommodations. We will do our very best to coordinate for your dietary need. This includes health-based needs such as vegetarian and gluten-free meals for an additional cost.
Technology and Connectivity
Yes, but plan ahead. You have several options:
- Add an international plan with your carrier
- Get a local SIM card (ensure your phone is unlocked)
- Use an eSIM (check if your phone supports it)
- Rely on local Wi-Fi and communicate via WhatsApp (widely used in Costa Rica)
Not if you’re coming from the U.S. or Canada. Costa Rica uses 110V plugs (same as U.S.).
Insurance
Yes, we recommend it. Travel insurance can reimburse you for canceled flights, medical emergencies, or lost luggage.
It’s strongly recommended in case of illness or injury abroad. Many travel insurance plans include medical coverage.
Refund Policy
Yes, we offer prorated refunds:
- 70% refund if canceled 2 months in advance
- 50% refund if canceled 1 month in advance
- 25% refund if canceled 2 weeks in advance
- No refund if canceled 1 week or less before your retreat
