Living a Life of Wellness
We know that the mind and body are connected via the nervous system, so what does this tell us? (See our previous blog post for more on the nervous system).
Our thoughts matter. Our emotional health matters. Caring for our bodies matters. Beliefs and connections matter.
Integrating mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual methods of health and healing into our daily lives has a powerful impact on our overall wellbeing.
In fact, focusing on even one of these aspects automatically impacts the others.
This means that our diet and exercise habits not only impacts us physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well.
Our thoughts, beliefs, and perspectives not only impact us mentally, but emotionally, physically, and spiritually also.
Our ability to identify and process the way we feel not only impacts us emotionally, but mentally, physically, and spiritually as well.
And our ability to connect with ourselves, others, a higher power and nature not only impacts us spiritually, but mentally, emotionally, and physically as well.
Take a look at the visual below to see specific components within each aspect.
When you are wanting to feel better, you can take a look at this graphic and ask yourself, “Where do I want to start?”
You can choose any option from one of the four quadrants, and you will notice changes in all areas of your life.
Take a look at this list of modalities you can incorporate into your regular practice for well-being:
- Yoga
- Tapping
- Thoughtwork
- Meditation
- Breath work
- Thai Chi
- Music Therapy
- Progressive Muscle Relaxation
- Guided Imagery
One important truth to remember is that learning a new skill or modality takes time and practice. Whatever you choose to do, be patient with yourself, take your time, and be present with the experience. Perhaps you want to find a mentor to help you, a class to attend, or an instructional video to guide you.
As a gift from me to you, I hope you will enjoy this box- breathing exercise I recorded for you. Feel free to listen and practice anytime. Breathwork is a great way to decrease anxiety by calming the nervous system through focused, intentional breathing.
